Ceptah Solutions

Ceptah Bridge for MS Project and JIRA provides integration between the MS® Office Project and Atlassian® JIRA® applications and allows building an effective project management solution using the products.

After being installed, the Bridge extends the MS Project main menu with its own items to expose the synchronization features. Technically, the Bridge is an MS Project add-in and has to be installed on each MS Project computer where synchronization with JIRA is needed.

Key features

Publication

Once the first version of a project is ready, or there are new items in an already published project, the tasks are promoted to JIRA by creating respective issues and linking them to the tasks. The bridge provides a flexible mechanism to customize the process.

Synchronization

Changes in both project tasks and JIRA issues can be synchronized in both directions at any time according to the synchronization settings (mappings) specified.

The Ceptah Bridge plugin does not have two separate synchronization functions for copying data from JIRA to Project and from Project to JIRA. Instead, it treats the synchronization as a single process, during which it moves some data from MS Project to JIRA and some data from JIRA to Project, basing on the synchronization mappings.

Supported JIRA fields

  • Summary, Description
  • Project key, Issue type, Priority
  • Due date, Assignee
  • Status, Resolution
  • Time spent, Original/Remaining estimate
  • Worklog
  • Security level
  • Components, Affects/Fix versions, Environment
  • Reporter, Votes
  • Any custom fields

Preview of changes

Full control over the changes being made is provided by detailed preview and explicit confirmation of any actions taken by the Bridge during synchronization. No surprises or riddles are possible. If the Bridge is not going to act the way you would expect it to, the settings can be adjusted to ensure the expected behaviour.

Customizable synchronization mappings

You can define a synchronization policy that suits best your management process and implement it using the rich set of customizable synchronization mappings the Bridge offers.

Resolved issues browsing

Another feature that can come in handy is browsing resolved issues submitted by your resources to you for closing or reopening. You can go to the respective JIRA page from the issue browser to decide fate of an issue.

Import from JIRA

Existing issues can be imported from JIRA into an MS Project document. The new tasks are created in accordance with the synchronization mappings.

Command-line mode

The import and synchronization can be launched using a command line tool included in the software package.

Microsoft Project versions

The Bridge works with Microsoft Office Project 2000, 2003 and 2007.
